Reishi - Ganoderma lucidum - Animals

Petra Remsing – veterinary practitioner

Reishi is found in floodplain, oak and hornbeam forests on stumps and at the base of live trunks. It is a very versatile mushroom with a wide range of uses.

In veterinary medicine it is used for almost all diseases, often in combination with other fungi.

Due to its high content of triterpenes in the fruiting body, it has a positive effect on all inflammations in the animal’s body. In allergies, Reishi reduces histamine release, which is responsible for swelling, redness and itching. It relieves inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes due to its cortisone-like effect.

Due to its positive influence on the oxygen supply of the body, it has an extraordinarily good effect on cardiac insufficiency, heart muscle and heart valve diseases, as well as heart failure. It increases the oxygen supply to the heart muscle and decreases the oxygen consumption of the tissue. Furthermore, it strengthens the lungs and is an important fungus in asthma and chronic bronchitis.

Reishi also has a great organ connection to the liver. It supports them in detoxification work and helps with liver inflammation. In liver cirrhosis, it has anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic effects and prevents oxidative damage to the liver.

In general, the Reishi regulates the immune system and can be given especially in older animals – also preventively – to strengthen and improve the quality of life.

Fields of application of the Reishi

For mushroom powders there are many suppliers

You will find trustworthy suppliers with controlled organic cultivation in Germany, but unfortunately also less recommendable importers of cheap goods. Read what is important when buying.

Note: The described effects are based on the intake of medicinal mushroom powder prepared from the whole mushroom. Please consult your pet therapist before use.
